i’d rather regret the things i’ve done

at the beginning of the motherhood project in 2022, i thought maybe i’d make portraits of mothers who were mothering the way i imagined i’d like to mother … if i ever got to be a mother. lucille was at the start of those mothers: the first mother on national television, a penultimate business woman. maybe one of those who falls off the pedestal the more you learn about them …
but ooof. she was funny. and she didn’t let much get in her way.
the 8” x 10” painting is 100% archival: gold and india inks on 100% cotton 140lb. watercolor paper, mounted on a cradled wood panel, sealed with wax medium for water resistance and easy cleaning. it can hang as is, or you can purchase a floater frame to amp up the formality.
This painting is on view at the Arvada Center Holiday Art Market through Dec. 15, 2024. It is available for sale there.
