Mama of the Nantahala Outdoor Center, est. 1972 in western North Carolina. A place that’s birthed a lot of things in me - as she has in almost two dozen olympic boaters and thousands of other humans. The first place I went rafting, the first place I rolled a kayak, flipped my own raft … a place that taught me I could be scared $*!#-less and still do it.
