The best thing about drawing land is it’s like touching it. Slowly. Piece by piece. Learning it like you learn a lover’s body. By tracing. All the best bits. Knowing it’s dark hidden places better. The flat spots and the rough ones. The open naked parts where the sun bakes day after day. And the Appalachian bits of land … I feel like I know them better. They’re like old friends. The soft grasses. Rocks peeking out between. So many more soft green things on the east coast than out west …
